Family Ties to Shelbyville

My Family Ties To Shelbyville

Many people in my family have worked and owned businesses in Shelbyville, to name a few:

My great grandmothers brother, James Scofield owned Scofield Pharmacy on Main Street.

My great grandfather Alvin Ethington was a builder and built many homes in the Plainview and Ashland Avenue area

As well as other locations.

My grandmother, Nancy Durrett Ethington worked at Shelby County Trust Bank, and later CUB Bank in Simpsonville.

My grandfather, Elmo Ethington and his friend owned a pool hall, in what is now the Community Theater. A lot of teenage boys spent time there and had to follow three rules.

  • no drinking,
  • no cussing
  • no talking bad about any girl.

My grandfather also owned a small grocery on 7th Street before you get to what is now the Shelbyville/Shelby County Park.

My mother Terry Ethington was a portrait photographer and owned TERRE Studio

And later worked as the floral designer and also decorated trees throughout the Wakefield-Scearce gallery.

My brother Camm and I were lucky to have known every one of the people I mentioned.
